Help

A short guide to how Discovery Companion works. The product is designed to be self-explanatory, so this covers the questions that are genuinely worth answering up front.

What Discovery Companion is, and who it is for

Discovery Companion is a structured discovery workspace for CX and CCaaS professionals — solution consultants, presales engineers and independent consultants who run customer discovery and have to turn it into something a customer will read.

It is not a CRM and not a project tool. It holds one methodology, applied consistently across engagements, and turns the answers you capture into a customer-ready Statement of Understanding.

The workflow: Discover, Define, Deliver

Discover. Create an Account for the customer and an Opportunity beneath it, then start a discovery workshop against the Enterprise CCaaS Discovery methodology.

Define. Turn what you learned into requirements, each with a priority and a category, traceable back to the discovery answer it came from.

Deliver. Generate the Statement of Understanding, edit it, and export it as DOCX or PDF with your own branding.

Running a discovery

A workshop is a set of knowledge cards grouped into sections. Each field carries a priority: Critical, Recommended or Optional. Only Critical fields count towards workshop completion, so progress reflects whether you have enough to write a defensible document — not whether you filled in every box.

Answers save automatically as you type. You can mark a field as answered, not applicable or still outstanding, and add free-form notes to any card during a live customer conversation.

Requirements

Requirements are captured against the opportunity and can be created directly from a discovery answer, which keeps the traceability link intact. Each has a priority of High, Medium or Low and a category. The requirements table gives you the whole picture for an opportunity in one view, and requirements flow into the Statement of Understanding.

Statement of Understanding and exports

The Statement of Understanding is a nine-section document generated from your discovery and requirements. Sections you edit by hand are preserved: refreshing the document never overwrites your own wording. Empty sections stay empty rather than being filled with invented text — the document should only ever say what you actually established.

Export to DOCX or PDF from the document workspace. Both carry a cover page, contents and the consultancy branding you set in Settings → Identity.

Where your data is stored

Your account — email, password or Google sign-in — lives in the cloud, and controls access to the product. Everything else does not. Accounts, opportunities, discovery answers, requirements and documents are written to a database inside your browser, on the device you are working on.

Two consequences worth understanding. Your work does not follow you between devices automatically. And clearing your browser’s site data, using private browsing, or running an aggressive cleanup tool can delete the workspace permanently. Take backups.

Backups, restoring, and moving to another device

Settings → Backup exports your whole workspace as a single JSON file. Keep it somewhere you actually back up.

To move to another computer, export on the old one, sign in on the new one, and import the file. Import offers two modes: Replace, which swaps your workspace for the file’s contents, and Merge, which adds the file’s records to what is already there. Replace is the right choice when moving devices.

Closing your account vs deleting your workspace

These are deliberately separate. To permanently close your account and have your personal data deleted, email privacy@discoverycompanion.app from the address you sign in with — Settings → Account has the same request. If you have a subscription, cancel it first in Settings → Billing, because closing an account does not cancel billing on its own. Take a backup before you ask: nothing can be recovered afterwards.

Deleting your local workspace is a separate action under Settings → Workspace that erases the database on that device. Neither can be undone, and we cannot restore either for you.

Plans, trial and billing

Subscriptions can be purchased today. A subscription starts when you complete checkout, and the plans, prices and trial terms below are the real terms of a Discovery Companion subscription.

Plans. One plan, billed either €24 per month or €240 per year. Both cover one consultant and include every feature. Taxes may apply depending on your location and tax status. Full details are on the Pricing page.

The 14-day trial. An eligible first-time account starts with a free trial of 14 days on either plan. A payment method is required to start it, and nothing is charged while the trial runs. When the trial ends, the plan price is charged automatically unless you cancel before then, and renewal then continues on the cadence you chose.

One trial per account. The trial is offered once per Discovery Companion account, not once per plan. Switching between Monthly and Annual does not start another trial, and if you subscribe again after having used your trial, that subscription starts and is charged straight away. Settings → Billing always shows the exact terms before you pay.

Managing and cancelling. Everything — plan, payment method, cancellation and invoices — lives in Settings → Billing, which opens your payment provider’s secure portal. Cancelling stops the next charge; you keep access until the end date shown in Settings → Billing. Cancelling during a trial before its first charge avoids that charge. See Refunds & Cancellation.

If a payment fails. A renewal can fail for ordinary reasons — an expired or replaced card, for example. Settings → Billing will say so, and your access continues while your payment provider retries. Update your payment details there to avoid an interruption.

Getting help

Email support@discoverycompanion.app. Tell us what you were doing, what you expected and what happened instead. Because your workspace is local, we cannot see it — so if a problem is specific to your data, describe it rather than assuming we can look.
